From sixty-day paid maternity leave, working mothers can enjoy a longer 105 days of leave after the signing of the Expanded Maternity Leave (EML) into law last February 20, 2019.
Before the said passage, there are sixty (60) days of paid maternity leave for vaginal delivery and seventy-eight (78) days for women who gave birth through caesarean section. EML now grants 105 days of paid maternity leave with option to extend for thirty (30) days without pay. Meanwhile, solo mothers will also get additional fifteen (15) days of leave.
The new maternity law will give female workers in the government and private sectors one hundred five (105) days of paid maternity leave credits regardless of the type of childbirth. This is to let the female workers to fully recover and take care of their newborn child, regardless of marital status or frequency.
Moreover, the expectant mothers shall be granted sixty (60) days of paid leave benefits in cases of miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy.
