DOLE’s IRR for Maternity Leave Extension

In a reference from last February 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the contract measures of extended Maternity Leave. It is for the improvement that will benefit working mothers in the Philippines.

Last May 1, 2019 – Labor Day, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) launches the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to confirm the mandate of extended Maternity Leave benefit under Expanded Maternity Leave Act.

The implementation of Extended Maternity leave grants mothers for over 3 months of paid leave credits. It implies for working mother in both government and any private sectors. Regardless of the mode of delivery, civil status, and employment status. As per measure, this leave credit will take over 105 days paid and 7 days transferable to fathers. Also, there is an additional 15 working days paid granted for a solo parent for a total of 120 days of paid maternity leave.

The law also prohibits discrimination against the employment of women in order to avoid granting the expanded maternity benefits. It is also a greater advantage for a solo parent to ensure their health at took around the newly birth child status.
